How to book a Kaziranga jeep safari

(updated Sep 2026)

The Assam Government and Forest Department has confirmed the safari booking procedures for the upcoming season 2026-2027. If you are planning to visit Kaziranga, here is how the process works and what it costs.
To book directly, you can register through the official forest department portal https://kazirangasafari.in/booking/user/index
Or at the range office counters a day in advance.
Every passenger must submit a valid government photo ID -- an Aadhaar card or driving licence for Indian nationals, and a passport for foreign visitors. Gate officers verify these details before any jeep enters the park. Along with obtaining the pass, you will also have to hire a Gypsy with valid permits for the safari from private jeep safari operator counters at each range.
Wildlife is distributed evenly across all four main ranges. You have as good a chance of seeing rhinos, deer, or wild buffalo in Agaratoli as you do in Kohora. What changes is the landscape and vehicle volume. Kohora and Bagori are the most frequented because most hotels sit right outside their gates. Burapahar and Agaratoli have fewer gypsies on the tracks, offering a much quieter drive through woodland and channels.
The total cost of direct bookings at the forest counter & gypsy counters will be between Rs 3,000 and Rs 4,200 per jeep for Indian nationals, depending on the range. For foreign visitors, direct entry fees and vehicle rates run between Rs 7,000 and Rs 8,500 per jeep. Maximum 6 people are allowed in 1 jeep.
When resorts or local hosts arrange safaris for guests, prices generally range from Rs 4,500 to Rs 6,000 for Indian visitors and Rs 8,500 to Rs 10,000 for foreign guests. This higher rate covers advance permit handling, safari jeep and driver fees, mandatory forest guard allowances, and gate coordination. An experienced safari jeep driver comes with the knowledge of do’s and don’ts inside the park, keeps the engine quiet and maintains safe distance from wildlife.
Happy wildlife experiences!
